The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has designated June 15 as a day to help your software vendor, clearinghouse or billing service test compliance with the new Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) 5010 transaction standards.

If you file claims electronically or receive electronic remittance advice, you must comply with the new 5010 version. The deadline for compliance is Jan. 1, 2012.

National 5010 Testing Day is an opportunity for all trading partners to come together and test compliance efforts that are already underway with the added benefit of real-time help desk support, stated the agency.

CMS advises you to contact your software vendor, clearinghouse and/or billing service to verify they will be a part the CMS National 5010 Testing Day.

Find details about the 5010 HIPAA upgrade on the CMS website.
