Laurel Weddle of Columbus became the new president of the Indiana State Medical Association Alliance (ISMA-A) during the ISMA-A and ISMA conventions. Weddle also was president of the group in 1998.
In her address, she urged her colleagues to strengthen the medical family by working toward common goals benefiting both organizations.
“We are very much a relevant organization in today’s world,” noted Weddle. “We do marvelous things in our own communities to support the needs of each of those communities.”
Her agenda for the coming year includes efforts to:
- Increase Alliance membership
- Partner with the ISMA on legislative issues
- Support medical school education and research through scholarships
Weddle has been active in the ISMA-A since 1990. On a national level, she has been a member of the Board of Directors of the AMA Alliance for three years, and served on the AMA Foundation Committee and Legislation Committee. Locally, she serves on the board of the Columbus Regional Hospital Foundation and Domestic Violence Task Force.
Weddle is married to C.O. Weddle, M.D., a retired general surgeon. The couple has five children and five grandchildren.
