Officials at the World Health Organization are concerned about the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) outbreak in South Korea. To stem transmission, U.S. physicians are urged to ask patients for travel history and exposure if they present with a fever and acute respiratory illness, with or without pneumonia.

At presstime, 183 cases were confirmed in South Korea. Two health care facilities associated with most of the cases are being investigated.
