Measure stalls in House, impeding Senate debate
The U.S. House postponed a vote on HR 4213, the American Jobs and Closing Tax Loopholes Act of 2010, over cost concerns voiced by Republicans and some Democrats. The bill contained a provision to push back a looming 21 percent cut in Medicare reimbursements due to the Sustainable Growth Rate.
The wait means the Senate will not get the bill before the June 1 deadline for the cut.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has issued a directive for carriers to hold claims 10 business days.
The AMA continues to push for a permanent fix. “It is sad and ironic as we enter the Memorial Day holiday that Congress’ inaction on the 21 percent cut puts health care for America’s military heroes and their families at risk,” stated AMA President, J. James Rohack, M.D. “ TRICARE, the health care program for military families ties its payment rates to Medicare.”
A petition drive by all 50 state medical societies is also underway. If you have not yet signed the petition, please sign it here.
