The ISMA Commission on Sports Medicine presented Fort Wayne physician Eric Jenkinson, M.D., the 17th annual Team Physician of the Year award. The presentation was made in Indianapolis during the Athletic Trainers Association banquet.

As a non-operative musculoskeletal physician for SportONE, the sports medicine program of Orthopaedics Northeast, Dr. Jenkinson has served as team physician for Ball State University, Anderson University and Grand Rapids Community College athletic programs. He currently is team physician for Indiana University-Purdue University, Fort Wayne, Trine University, Manchester University, Huntington University, Indiana Tech and several high schools in northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio.

“Dr. Jenkinson goes above and beyond the call of duty for his patients and staff,“ wrote Candice Dunkin who nominated him. “He is always willing to see ‘just one more patient,’ and understands the importance of high school and college athletics in children's and young adults’ lives.”

Graduating from the IU School of Medicine, Dr. Jenkinson completed his residency at the DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, Mich., and a fellowship in sports medicine at Ball Memorial Hospital.

The Team Physician of the Year Award is given to an ISMA member in good standing, with 20 years of experience as a physician for an Indiana high school or organized sports team.
