Based on the annual rate survey from a recent issue of the Medical Liability Monitor, Indiana’s medical malpractice rates remain competitive and lower than in many states across the country.
Each year, the Medical Liability Monitor publishes an issue detailing commercial rates for major insurance companies in each of the 50 states for internal medicine, general surgery and obstetrics/gynecology specialties. The report provides a baseline comparison for rates nationwide but does not reflect any credits or other factors that may impact final rates. For applicable states, the report also provides patient’s compensation fund surcharges.
All Indiana rates reflect limits of $250,000/$750,000 in primary coverage. The Indiana Patient’s Compensation Fund provides an additional $1 million in coverage for each claim that exceeds the physician’s primary coverage.
