Harvey Middleton, M.D., played by Noah Winston, demonstrated his cardiette machine to visitors as part of an interactive presentation at the Indiana History Center in Indianapolis. The ISMA is one of three sponsors of the exhibit, “You Are There 1939: Healing Bodies, Changing Minds.”

In 1939, African-American physician Dr. Middleton invited the community to his Indianapolis office to see the latest in electrocardiographic technology. He became one of the city’s leading cardiologists.

The exhibit includes other members from Dr. Middleton’s community who describe life and the practice of medicine during the Great Depression.
