RESOLUTION 12-57 NEONATAL DRUG ADDICTION
Introduced by: 8th District Medical Society
Referred to: REFERENCE COMMITTEE 4
Whereas, there is a growing national problem of drug-addicted neonates; and
Whereas, there is no coordinated program in Indiana to deal
with these infants; and
Whereas, current therapy for the neonate is costing the citizens
of Indiana millions of dollars each year; and
Whereas, exposure of the neonate to prescription narcotics/illegally obtained narcotics is associated with an increase in ADD, ADHD
and autism; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the ISMA form an ad hoc commission to study the problem of drug-addicted neonates and propose a solution within one year; and be it further
RESOLVED, that the ISMA help with local efforts to stem the abuse
of prescription narcotics to women of child-bearing potential.
RESOLUTION 12-58 FUNDING OF INSPECT

Referred to: REFERENCE COMMITTEE 4
Whereas, there is a growing prescription drug problem in Indiana; and
Whereas, Indiana has an exemplary prescription drug tracking program (INSPECT); and
Whereas, funding for the INSPECT program will be exhausted in 2014; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the ISMA support responsible legislation that will continue the INSPECT program past 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, that the ISMA aid in identifying sources of revenue that will continue the INSPECT program so that the burden of cost will not be borne by physicians alone.
