You now have more time to enroll in Medicare, thanks to a new change by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
Effective May 14, CMS allows 60 days in advance of the effective date, which is the later of:
- The date you filed an application that is ultimately approved by Medicare
- The date you began furnishing services at a new practice location
Until recently, CMS had a deadline of 30 days. National Government Services customer service staff will answer your questions until Aug. 20, when the change to WPS, the new Medicare contractor, will occur. Contact NGS at (866) 276-8129.
