If you are a primary care physician, the National Health Service Corps (NHSC) offers you the opportunity to pay off your medical student loans by serving communities in need. But don’t wait! You have only until May 15 to apply.

The NHSC Loan Repayment Program will pay up to $60,000 to physicians for an initial two years of full-time or four years of part-time clinical practice in an approved health professional shortage area. The NHSC will pay up to $30,000 if you practice part-time for two years.

To qualify, you must be licensed to practice in the state in which you will serve your commitment and have qualifying educational loans.

To get started, you must:

• Find a job at an NHSC-approved site by logging onto the NHSC website.
• Apply to the NHSC Loan Repayment Program
• Work at least two years at your site – with the option to continue your service and receive additional loan repayment
