Many physicians have reported to the AMA that they have received the 2012 Medicare e-prescribing penalty in error. Subsequently, the AMA secured a commitment from CMS to hear cases one more time.
CMS has completed a review of all hardship exemption requests for the 2012 e-prescribing penalty program received via their Communication Support Page.
Reasons to contact CMS include not receiving a formal notice from CMS about the final status of your exemption request – or you believe you are receiving the 2012 e-prescribing penalty in error.
For examples of hardships that may qualify you for an exemption, see here.
If you have not already contacted the CMS Quality Net Help Desk, please wait toward the end of the month. This will allow CMS to prepare their staff.
Contact the Quality Net Help Desk by phone at (866) 288-8912 or via email.
