The Indiana Department of Insurance (IDOI) has notified the ISMA that the surcharge physicians pay on medical malpractice insurance for the Patient’s Compensation Fund (PCF) is going down this year — by 10.2 percent.
In late December, the ISMA was consulted during the IDOI’s process of evaluating the PCF actuarial analysis. ISMA staff met with IDOI officials to discuss and provide input on the PCF surcharges. After taking our comments under advisement, Insurance Commissioner Steve Robertson ultimately reduced physician surcharges more than initially anticipated.
Hospitals can expect an overall decrease of 1.7 percent in their surcharge for 2012. Read the next ISMA Reports for more details.
