BILL: SB 28 – Fire Safe Cigarettes
AUTHOR: Sen. Jeff Drozda, R-Westfield
SPONSOR: Rep. Charlie Brown, D-Gary
ISMA POSITION: Support

THIS WEEK: SB 28 was amended by Sen. Drozda on second reading in the Senate. The bill was then passed by the Senate with a vote of 47-1. The bill now moves to the House Committee on Veterans Affairs and Public Safety for consideration.

SB 28 establishes reduced ignition propensity standards for cigarettes and provides certification fees and penalties.


BILL: SB 221 – Warning to Pregnant Women of Tobacco Use
AUTHOR: Sen. Vi Simpson, D-Bloomington
SPONSOR: Rep. Charlie Brown, D-Gary
ISMA POSITION: Support

THIS WEEK: The bill passed the Senate by a vote of 43-5 and will now move to the House for consideration.

SB 221 requires tobacco vending machines and establishments that sell tobacco to have a posted notice stating that smoking by pregnant women may result in fetal injury, premature death and low birth weight.
