BILL: HB 1144– Failure to Report a Dead Body

THIS WEEK:  The House approved the measure, which will now move to the Senate for consideration.

The bill would establish a Class A misdemeanor for failure of a person to knowingly or intentionally report, within three hours, the discovery of a dead body when it appears the deceased person died by violence, suicide, accident or under certain other suspicious or unusual circumstances. The report must be made to a public safety officer, coroner, physician or 911 telephone call center.


BILL: HB 1318 – Funding for Spinal Cord and Brain Injury Fund

THIS WEEK: HB 1318 was passed by the House by a vote of 91-5. It now moves to the Senate for consideration.

HB 1318 changes the funding for the spinal cord and brain injury fund from a $10 motorcycle registration fee to a $.50 fee on passenger motor vehicles, motorcycles, trucks, buses and RVs. The bill makes technical changes to the fund and increases the law enforcement continuing education program fee from $3 to $4.
