Legislative News

February 4, 2008 issue

The first half of the 2008 General Assembly session concluded last week with the Senate finishing its business on Tuesday, Jan. 29, and the House ending business on Wednesday, Jan. 30. Both chambers resume legislative action on Feb. 4.

The ISMA had a successful week with movement of bills aimed to address silent PPOs (preferred provider organizations) and to require insurers to honor a patient’s assignment of benefit to an out-of-network physician. Much more work is yet to be done before the end of session.

The ISMA Government Relations Department thanks each and every physician who was active over the past weeks in contacting your local legislators on ISMA priorities. The lobbying staff heard directly from many legislators that they are supporting ISMA initiatives because they are hearing from their local physicians. Keep up these grassroots contacts; they absolutely matter!
