Legislative News

January 28, 2008 issue

The week of Jan. 21 was a deadline week for bills to move out of the committees to which they were assigned in order to move forward in this legislative session. Many committees met over the past several days, hearing more than 100 bills between the House and the Senate. Bills that did not make it out of committee are effectively dead, pending possible revival later in session by way of amendment.

Property taxes continue to dominate the discussions at the Statehouse, even with the movement of other bills unrelated to the property tax issue.

The ISMA will continue to advocate on physicians’ behalf over the coming weeks; however, it is unknown at this time how many health care-related bills will survive due to the difficult property tax debates on the House and Senate floors.
