The ISMA Commission on Medical Education met recently to conduct business and consider reaccreditation applications from several Indiana CME providers. Paul Rider, MD (above), is the chair.

Members probably know that ISMA seminars and webinars provide a way to update medical knowledge and obtain continuing medical education (CME) credits. What they may not know is that ISMA’s responsibilities regarding CME in Indiana are much broader.

The national Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) recognizes ISMA as the Indiana accreditor for intrastate CME providers. ISMA Commission on Medical Education members and volunteer auditors work with other medical and state specialty societies that want to offer CME to make sure their programs meet ACCME standards.

Currently, ISMA accredits 31 CME providers. Collectively in 2016, they conducted 536 activities and awarded 5,592 CME credit hours to an aggregate 79,656 participants, including 41,122 physicians and 38,534 non-physician practitioners.
