Congratulations to Ellyn Stecker, MD, a family medicine physician from South Bend, on her selection as the ISMA Medical Mission Sponsorship winner for 2018! Her entry was chosen at the ISMA Board of Trustees meeting on December 2.

Dr. Stecker will use the award to help fund a medical mission delegation to the Jinotepe and HueHuete areas of Nicaragua from Feb. 22 through March 7.

The annual project, Olive Tree Nicaragua, is conducted through the nonprofit The Olive Tree, Inc. The organization’s website lists its goals as being “to provide medical services to those in need who might otherwise not receive care, to provide medications to those that cannot afford to purchase medications themselves, to teach about health, to provide support – financial or other during times of crisis in the community and to provide educational opportunities to a few people in need.”
